Big Data Montreal #34 (Joint event with DevOpsMTL)

Tickets: bdm34.eventbrite.ca

Update (Feb. 21st): Added sponsor and presentation on SparkSQL vs Impala. Event will start a 6pm.

Big Data Montreal would like to invite you to its thirty-fourth meeting!

Join us on Tuesday March 3rd at 6pm to attend a conference, as well as to network with other Big Data enthusiasts from Montreal!

The meeting will take place at the RPM Startup Centre, which is located at 420 Guy street.

All are welcome, no matter if you already have some experience with Big Data technologies or if you’re simply curious to learn more.

We have two scheduled presentations both by Jake Moshenko:

Jake is the product manager for the Quay.io container registry at CoreOS, a Linux distribution with containers as a first-class citizen and software distribution channel. Formerly of Google, Amazon, and Boeing, he has been building robust distributed systems for over 10 years:

  • Rocket: CoreOS’s own container format
Presentation of Rocket, the App Container Specification, our motivation for creating it, how it compares and contrasts with Docker, how each tool might be better for a different job, and what the current status is (not production ready!).
  • CoreOS + Quay.io Development Lifecycle
How CoreOS + Quay.io fit into the development lifecycle from the point when you push your git changes all the way through to running in production. I will talk about the problems CoreOS attempts to fix and some of the architeture affordances it requires on the part of the app developer.

And a few flash presentations:

  • SparkSQL vs Impala for interactive query, by Olivier Mirandette, architect at Guavus

N.B.: This edition will be in English.

There will be food and drinks courtesy of Lightspeed POS, our sponsors for this event.

Finally, you are also welcome to join us at the nearby Brasseurs de Montreal, after the presentations, for some casual networking (please use the appropriate ticket so we know how many people to expect).

Please tell your friends and colleagues :) !

P.S.: We are (as always) looking for speakers for future editions of BDM, so if you’re interested in presenting (or if you know people who are), please don’t hesitate to write to us at bdm-admin@googlegroups.com :) !
